THEME 4: PRACTICE AND ENVIRONMENTS THAT ENHANCE
CHILDREN’S LEARNING AND GROWTH
At Guliyali Preschool, we perceive the learning environment as the third teacher (Guliyali Preschool Principles, Practice and Outcomes), meaning that the environment has a role in enhancing children’s learning and growth. Our educators provide an atmosphere that fosters creative exploration. Our learning environments are thoughtfully designed and arranged in a way that engages and informs students beyond the direction the teacher provides. Appropriate language and boundary-setting allows for curiosity and problem solving skills to develop. Creating beautiful spaces with natural elements such as fresh air, water, dirt and sand, along with natural wood play structures and gardens that actively engage and support children’s creativity, imagination, language development and social skills. It also fosters teaching and learning opportunities where children can spend unhurried periods of time in meaningful and engaged play.

"When I think of transition to school at your school what the ‘excellence’ is, is your play-based learning environments that mirror the preschool environment and ensuring that the ES1 curriculum is still being taught. Children have familiarity and consistency in their environment. Their sense of belonging is adapted easier because of the age-appropriate pedagogy of all teachers at your school. You also do this in your support classes for those children who attend a support class in Kindergarten" P-2 Initiatives Officer Jessica Lavers.
